Donoussa is an amazing island, one of the Small Cyclades Islands, very close to Naxos.
It is the most easterly island, measuring 13 sq.km and there are only 160 people during the winter.
Stavros is the main center and port, the other villages are Troulos, Messaria, Mersini and Kalotaritissa.
We recommend you to see absolutely the small beaches of Stavros, Kedros, Bruises and Kalotaritissa.
This island is also an ideal destination for lovers of walks since almost everything is only accessible by foot. In the evening you can enjoy a typical dinner in the few taverns in Stavros.
For those who love caves, we recommend to visit “Spilia Tichou” which means Cave of the Wall and “Fokospili”, the Cave of the Seal.
The beach of Kedros is one of the most beautiful beaches of the Greece, you need 10 minutes by feet to reach this incredible beach, from the mountain you need to go down until the sea.
The view from the hill is absolutely amazing.
There are ferries that almost every day connect Donoussa with the most important islands, like Amorgos and Naxos. You have to visit the Agia Sophia Church on the top of a hill outside Mersini, where you can attend the annual celebration on September 17.
The other beautiful churches are Timios Stavros (Holy Cross) – celebration on September 14 and Panagia-Ai Giannis – celebration on August 15.
Donoussa is surrounded by many uninhabited rocky islets. The most famous is Makares that is composed by 3 rocky islets: Agios Nikolaos or Megalo, Prassini or Agia Paraskevi and Stroggyli.
