Amorgos has a beautiful Chora, on a hill overlooking the sea. The other two cities are Aegialis and Katapola, where it is possible to arrive by ship from Piraeus and many other islands.
But the most famous place in Amorgos is the Monastery of Hozoviotissa (built 1000 years ago), literally set in the rock and reachable after 300 steps, strictly uphill.
The view from the monastery is indescribable, but we recommend that you bring water and do not go up during the hottest hours!
Fortunately, it is possible to visit part of the monastery open to the public, immersing yourself in a surreal atmosphere, thanks to the presence of the monks who live there.
Chora, the capital of the island, built around a large rock, will welcome you with its alleys, small restaurants and bars hidden among the narrow streets, elegant shops and mills, now abandoned but equally fascinating.
Katapola is a small but equally beautiful town, with some restaurants and shops, close to the famous Maltezi beach. We invite you to get lost in the narrow streets in search of the perfect shot, among white and elegant houses.
Aegialis in the north of the island is the most important port and has a spectacular beach and a postcard sunset!
There are beaches that are definitely worth a day, such as Levrossos Beach, Agia Anna (under the monastery), Agios Pavlos, Psili Ammos, and Halara.
Finally, we recommend a day in the islet of Nikouria, obviously reachable only by boat, for a trip to pristine and truly beautiful beaches!
Other beaches are easily accessible by boat.
Amorgos is very famous for those who practice trekking and there are several interesting trails!
